Mahaffey Farm (Lancaster)

You might already have an impression of what you think goat milk tastes like. I ask you to reconsider. Upon visiting Mahaffey Farm I tried this infamous milk, and to my surprise it was great! That's probably because Jeff Mahaffey prides himself on his Grade A raw milk. He milks his goats by hand or by a small machine two at a time, and he bottles to order. No old milk here! And just as it tastes delicious, it looks delicious, too. Goats milk is naturally homogenized and comes out white as snow.

Jeff's farm consists of dairy goats (does) and a few bucks, and lots of kids - of the goat kind! In fact, upon my visit 3 baby goats had just been born a few days before. And boy are they cute! All the goats on Jeff's farm have names, and they are all happy to come when you call. Aside from a few "rambos" in the herd, the goats are incredibly well behaved and pleasantly tempered, leaving Ka-Bar and his pack of guard dogs with little distractions to their duties guarding the heard. Employing guard dogs is another great way that Jeff has suited his farm. It's like a neat little family of goats, chickens, guiney fowl, dogs and cats. And with this extended family structure, Jeff can hardly keep the wild birds away, as the cats don't really give a darn!

But, beneath the sweet 'bleas' of the herd, the Mahaffeys are truly running a Grade A facility. The milk is fresh and delicious, the goats are happy as can be, and Jeff's integrity is one to match. He doesn't believe in using antibiotics and hormones to mask problems with the herd. And, he doesn't need to. His farm is completely sustainable, humane and productive on its own.

Mahaffey Farm is owned and run by Jeff and Dee Dee Mahaffey. Other employees include Ka-Bar and his pack, and a few farm cats who all work for petting and food. The Mahaffeys also have two dedicated horses who moved with them to the farm 18 years ago.
